Masterclass: Illustrating Mental Health

An afternoon workshop with medical illustrator Merlin Strangeway.

When, Where

Explore how illustration can represent – and revolutionize – the landscape of mental health at this hands-on workshop with medical illustrator Merlin Strangeway.

You’ll harness the power of illustration to depict the inner workings of the mind; to shock, subvert, support, proclaim, connect and embolden. Working through a series of guided exercises, you’ll map and articulate inner emotional states and narrative using a variety of media and techniques.

Expect a supportive environment of like-minded people with whom to share your work and practice – no previous drawing experience necessary.

If you’d like to bring a sketchbook and any preferred pens or pencils, you’re welcome to do so but it’s not essential.

Please note: this masterclass is for those aged 18+ only.

About the tutor:

Having trained as a professional medical artist through the Medical Artists’ Education Trust and Royal College of Surgeons, Merlin’s practice maps both the physical and the psychological elements of the self. She has worked with a wide range of international clients visualising mental health through the medium of illustration and is currently Medical Illustrator in Residence at Bart’s Pathology Museum in London.
