Schools' illustration workshops

Choose from five illustrator-led workshops for pupils from EYFS to KS5.

Our illustration workshops for primary and secondary classes are all led by professional illustrators and educators and designed to meet your specific needs.

Sessions are 2 hours, with gallery visit and activities followed by hands-on workshops.

Primary workshops teach accessible, effective art and illustration skills and link to any curriculum area. Students gain the confidence to communicate ideas and knowledge visually.

Secondary workshops teach higher-level skills and expertise. Students gain the confidence to respond to an illustration brief and develop skills in visual communication.

Choose from our menu of five workshops:

Option 1: Character Design

Create characters from text descriptions – just let us know the book you’re studying. Or invent exciting brand new characters from imagination. Perfect for teaching English/Literacy.

Option 2: Pop-Up Illustration

Using simple paper engineering, create pop-up scenes on any subject for a stunning classroom display or class book. Ideal for teaching sciences, humanities and English.

Option 3: Sequential Illustration

Depict life cycles, scientific processes or a series of events, or create and tell a visual story. Great for teaching sciences, humanities and English.

Option 4: Creating Mood and Atmosphere

Explore techniques to convey the feeling and setting from a specific text. Perfect for teaching English/Literacy.

Option 5: Poster Design

Communicate a message visually using illustration with typography and graphic design. Excellent for all subjects including PSHE, SMRE, British Values and whole-school themes.

Workshop availability:

Sessions are available 10.15am-12.15pm and 12.30-2.30pm Tuesday-Friday.

2 State School classes in 1 day £300
1 Independent School class £300
2 Independent School classes in 1 day £550

All classes must have a maximum of 30 students. Prices are the same regardless of the number of students.

House of Illustration is a charity that receives no public funding for any of our activities, including our education provision. The price we charge Independent Schools reflects the true cost of delivering a gallery visit and workshop.
