Frequently asked questions about hiring our space(s) for a private event.

Before contacting us, please check if we've already answered your query below! Due to the extremely high volume of enquiries we receive, the quickest way for you to get an answer is to check these frequently asked questions.

THE SOUTH GALLERY

When can I hire the South Gallery?

The South Gallery is available for hire from 5pm Tuesday to Sunday and all day on Monday. Your hire time must include set up and clear up.

What’s included in the South Gallery hire?

Hire fees include exclusive use of the space, cloakroom facilities and the services of an event manager.

Depending on the nature of the event, we can provide additional staff and/or technicians if required. Additional staff and/or technicians will incur an additional charge.

Can we hire an empty room?

The South Gallery is a working gallery space so there will be artwork surrounding your event.

If you wish the space to be cleared of all exhibits, there will be an additional charge to cover the costs of our curatorial team de-installing the exhibits before your event and re-installing them afterwards. Please note this is not always possible and will be considered on a case by case basis.

Can we re-arrange the artwork in the South Gallery to suit our event?

No-one is permitted to touch or move the artwork apart from our curatorial team.

Can we have food and drink in the South Gallery?

You are usually welcome to arrange canapes and drinks, except red wine, for your event in the South Gallery, but it is not suitable for sit-down meals. Please note that canapes and drinks may not always be permitted, depending on the exhibition.

Can you provide catering?

We cannot provide catering but we can advise on catering companies we have worked with in the past.

Can we bring our own caterers?

You can bring your own caterers provided all details are agreed in advance with our Venue Hire Manager.

THE CLORE STUDIO

When can I hire the Clore Studio?

The Clore Studio is available for hire at any time, subject to availability. Your hire time must include set up and clear up.

Can I hire the Clore Studio to run a course or workshop?

You can hire the Clore Studio for a one-off course or workshop but not for any series of workshops or multi-day courses.

What’s included in the Clore Studio hire?

Hire fees include exclusive use of the space, tables and chairs (as seen on the website), projector, wifi and the services of an event manager.

Depending on the nature of the event, we can provide additional staff and/or technicians if required. Additional staff and/or technicians will incur an additional charge.

Can you provide tea and coffee for our event?

We can provide tea and coffee hire in the Clore Studio for an additional charge.

OTHER ENQUIRIES

Can we arrange a private view of your exhibition(s)?

Yes. For costs and availability, please contact venuehire@houseofillustration.org.uk with as many as details as possible, including date of interest, number of guests and planned catering.

Can we hire your gallery space to host an exhibition?

We do not hire our gallery space to other organisations or individuals for public exhibitions.

Can you organise children’s birthday parties?

Unfortunately we are currently unable to organise these.

Do you offer any concessionary rates?

We offer a 10% discount on the room hire fee to registered charities only.
