Adult Masterclass: Characterful Environments

Learn how to make convincing environments for characters to create strong narrative illustrations.

When, Where

Be inspired by film sets to explore how to develop environments that depict the personality and situations of characters.

Using black and white drawing materials, we'll exlore the narrative potential of composition and detail. Students will develop how they are able to tell stories through the presentation of characters.

Materials will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring along their own sketchbooks, along with any favourite black and white drawing materials.

Pam Smy is an Associate Lecturer in Illustration at Cambridge School of Art, one of the founding members of Orange Beak Studio and is an illustrator. Her recent novel, Thornhill, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize and the CILIP Greenaway medal. Read more

Gift Aid

Gift Aid admissions allow us to reclaim tax on the full value of the ticket price, as well as the donation. This means an extra 25p in each pound.

If purchasing more than one ticket at the Gift Aid price the additional tickets must be for family members.

By selecting Gift Aid tickets you are confirming you are a UK taxpayer and that you are paying income tax and/or capital gains tax at least equal to the amount of tax that all charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs you donate to will reclaim on your gifts for each tax year (6 April to 5 April). Council tax and VAT do not qualify.
