Get to grips with calligraphy, digital letter drawing and optical principals, with guidance from tutor Joana Ranito of typeface design studio Dalton Maag. Perfect for students new to typography or those with an existing knowledge who want to learn more.
The workshop is structured with theoretical sections followed by practical exercises.
We will start by looking at calligraphy, building an awareness, through pracctical exercises, of the structure of letters, how the tools influence the shapes we type today, and the relationship between pen-stroke and white-space. Then, through drawing, we'll examine the inner proportions and relationships of letters before moving on to digital letter drawing principals and the importance of optical corrections when drawing type.
