We're thrilled to announce that Sean McSorley has won The Book Illustration Competition 2014 - congratulations!

The Book Illustration Competition, a unique collaboration between House of Illustration and The Folio Society, is open to student and professional illustrators, aged 18 and over, who have not been published by The Folio Society.

Sean, a Masters student at Camberwell College of Arts, impressed the judges with his haunting illustrations for Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad’s intensely visual masterpiece set in 19th-century Congo. His winning illustrations - which can be seen below - form part of a prestigious Folio Society commission, worth £5,000, to complete nine illustrations and a binding design for a new edition of Heart of Darkness.

The exceptional shortlist, chosen from among hundreds of entries from over 30 countries, also included Reto Crameri (Switzerland), Max Häring (Germany), Kit Russell (UK), Magdalena Szymaniec (USA) and Bethany White (UK) - see the full gallery of their work here.

We can also reveal that the book for the 2015 competition is the Folio Collection of Ghost Stories. Entry to the competition is now open: for more details and to download a selection of stories to be illustrated, visit The Book Illustration Competition 2015 website.
