Quentin Blake at The Hague

Matilda, Mr. Stink and the Minpins are in the Netherlands

  • Exhibitions

Museum Meermanno in The Hague is the oldest book museum in the world. Its collection includes written and printed books in the past and present, from medieval manuscripts to modern book design. It was originally the house of Baron Van Westreenen, and so is full of beautiful original features and 18th century French wallpaper preserved in situ.

House of Illustration worked with Museum Meermanno and Quentin Blake to bring Quentin Blake's friends: Matilda, Mr. Stink and the Minpins, a new exhibition of Blake’s illustrations for books, to the venue.

The exhibition includes some of Blake’s earliest illustrations for Penguin book covers, iconic characters drawn for authors such as Roald Dahl, Charles Dickens, Beatrix Potter and John Yeoman, and his stunning designs for The Folio Society.

Plus, alongside the exhibition, a pop-up exhibition (pictured below) about Quentin Blake and his working methods will be travelling across the national libraries in the Netherlands. The main exhibition at Museum Meermanno will be on display until 3 May 2019.

House of Illustration regularly sends exhibitions on tour throughout the UK and internationally. For more information click here.
